Frequently Asked Questions
Why 110lb cardstock? Most pocket notebooks use 60lb to 80lb covers. We use 110lb "Iron-Weight" cardstock because it provides a rigid writing surface when you're standing in the field or on a job site. It’s significantly stiffer out of the box, but it’s built to survive the moisture and friction that destroy thinner covers.
What is a "Dot Grid" and why do you use it?The 5mm dot grid is the middle ground between a blank page and a heavy graph. It gives you enough structure for technical sketches, floor plans, or straight lines of text, but the dots stay in the background so your ideas remain the focus.
How do I "break in" the notebook?Because the 110lb covers are so dense, they have a "memory." If you carry it in your back pocket, the heat from your body and the movement of your stride will naturally mold the cardstock to your shape within 3 to 5 days. Once it’s broken in, it’s yours.
Are these made in the USA?Yes. From the paper to the steel staples to the hand-trimming on our industrial cutter, every Forge Log is sourced and assembled right here in our East Tennessee workshop.
